Apple Set to Embrace USB-C in Upcoming iPhone 15 Models

Apple Inc. is reportedly poised to transition its iconic iPhone charging system from the Lightning port to USB-C with the forthcoming iPhone 15, according to reports from CNN Business and other reliable sources. This move marks a significant departure from Apple’s long-standing reliance on the Lightning connector, which has been a fixture of the iPhone since 2012.

While Apple has yet to officially confirm the change, multiple sources suggest that all models of the iPhone 15 will adopt the USB-C format, aligning them with other Apple devices such as MacBooks and iPads that have already embraced the universal port.

In a landmark decision in late 2022, the European Union’s parliament passed legislation mandating the incorporation of USB-C charging ports for “all mobile phones, tablets, and cameras sold in the EU.” Companies operating within the EU must comply with this regulation by the end of 2024. Additionally, the USB-C requirement will extend to laptops in the EU by 2026.

Apple’s most recent earnings report for the third quarter, released in early August, revealed $39.67 billion in net sales from its iPhone segment, reflecting a 2.4% decrease compared to the previous year.
