Elon Musk’s X Corp Set to Replace Twitter’s Iconic Bird Logo with “X”
In a bold move, Twitter owner Elon Musk is pressing forward with his plans to give the popular social media platform a complete makeover. Musk’s vision for the platform’s transformation has reached a new milestone as he aims to replace Twitter’s iconic bird logo with an “X” logo, symbolizing the shift from Twitter Inc. to X Corp.
The announcement came in the form of a tweet from Musk himself just after midnight on Sunday. He declared that Twitter would be distancing itself from the familiar bird logo, stating, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” This move is part of Musk’s strategy to redefine the platform under its new identity, X Corp.
The social media mogul then engaged with Twitter users, seeking suggestions for what to call the act of posting messages on the platform under its fresh branding. A fake Elon Musk account chimed in, asking, “What should we call tweeting?” and Twitter users were quick to respond with creative suggestions, including “Xweeting,” “Xeeting,” and “Xpressing.”
While some users were eager to embrace the change, others expressed reluctance to let go of the term “tweets.” Nevertheless, X Corp’s CEO Linda Yaccarino, formerly known as Twitter’s CEO, took to the platform to share her enthusiasm for the rebranding. She stated, “It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”
Yaccarino went on to assure users that X Corp would be bolder, more innovative, and more ambitious in meeting the needs of its audience. She emphasized the ongoing transformation of the platform, with rapid feature launches taking place over the past eight months. Yaccarino also expressed her confidence that X Corp had just scratched the surface of what it could achieve, promising that the platform would be capable of delivering everything its users desired.
The decision to retire Twitter’s bird logo did not come without controversy. Twitter acknowledged that the blue bird logo was its most recognizable asset, symbolizing the platform’s identity for years. Even the home button on Twitter’s website featured an icon of a birdhouse to complement the bird logo.
Elon Musk has previously toyed with the idea of temporary logo changes, experimenting with Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog back in April. The stunt resulted in a staggering $4 billion increase in the meme coin’s market value.
Since taking over the reins of Twitter in October, Musk has faced criticism for his proposed changes, such as the elimination of the traditional verification system, which was replaced by the subscription service Twitter Blue. Additionally, Twitter has begun compensating social media influencers who meet specific engagement criteria.
However, last Tuesday, the company found itself embroiled in a legal battle when a lawsuit was filed, accusing Twitter of owing at least $500 million in severance pay to former employees who were laid off after Musk’s takeover, as part of cost-cutting measures.
Despite these challenges, Elon Musk remains resolute in his vision for X Corp, confident that the platform’s transformation will redefine the way people interact and communicate in the digital age. As the X logo prepares to take flight, the world awaits the next chapter in the story of social media’s ever-evolving landscape.
