Hunter Biden Indicted in California on Tax Charges Amidst Ongoing Legal Battles
President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, faced a barrage of tax charges in California on Thursday, as disclosed in documents made public. The indictment alleges Hunter Biden’s failure to pay nearly $200,000 in income tax for the year 2019, adding another layer to the legal challenges already mounting against him.
Special Counsel David Weiss, utilizing a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, has been diligently collecting evidence for potential criminal tax charges related to Hunter Biden’s financial affairs. The indictment follows Hunter Biden’s not guilty plea in October to federal gun charges stemming from Weiss’s extensive investigation, conducted over several years.
Fox News Digital reached out to Hunter Biden’s legal team for comment, but as of now, there has been no response. Special Counsel Weiss’s spokesperson declined to provide any comments on the matter.
This development unfolds amidst the backdrop of looming political repercussions, with House Republican leaders preparing for an expected vote next week on a measure that could formally launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden over alleged ties to his son’s business dealings.
Earlier this week, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer revealed subpoenaed bank records indicating that an entity owned by Hunter Biden had made “direct monthly payments to Joe Biden.” Comer credited the indictment to the efforts of IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, asserting that the Department of Justice’s attempt to offer Hunter Biden a “sweetheart plea deal” had been exposed.
“The Department of Justice got caught in its attempt to give Hunter Biden an unprecedented sweetheart plea deal,” Comer stated. “Every American should applaud these men for their courage to expose the truth.”
Comer also urged U.S. Attorney Weiss to investigate all parties involved in the Bidens’ alleged “fraud schemes and influence peddling” to ensure a thorough and unbiased inquiry.
The White House has consistently maintained President Biden’s innocence, asserting that he had no knowledge of his son’s business dealings. Meanwhile, House Republicans have warned Hunter Biden of potential contempt of Congress charges if he fails to appear for a closed-door deposition scheduled for December 13.
Hunter Biden has publicly insisted on a public testimony, citing concerns that information from closed-door sessions is selectively leaked, potentially distorting facts and misleading the American public. As legal battles intensify, the Biden family finds itself under increasing scrutiny, grappling with both legal and political implications that could reshape the trajectory of President Biden’s presidency.
