Internet Archive Restores Access After Cyberattack
The Internet Archive, home to the vast digital library and Wayback Machine, has returned online in a limited, read-only state after a cyberattack forced it offline last week. The site was hit with a devastating cyberattack, followed by a data breach that compromised a user authentication database containing 31 million records.
Founder Brewster Kahle announced that while the platform is now “safe to resume” use, it may require further maintenance. Users can access archived content but can’t contribute or make changes until full functionality is restored. The site, a crucial tool for historians, researchers, and internet users worldwide, remains on high alert as additional security measures are implemented. For now, the team urges patience as they work to safeguard the Archive’s digital treasure trove from further attacks.
