McDonald’s Takes Beef Companies to Court Over Alleged Price-Gouging

McDonald’s is taking a stand against some of the largest meat suppliers, filing a federal lawsuit accusing several beef packing companies of working together and conspiring to artificially inflate their prices.

McDonald’s lawsuit alleges that these companies colluded to limit their stock so that they could illegally charge inflated prices, cutting into the company’s bottom line and, ultimately, that of consumers. This lawsuit follows other similar claims in the food industry, as McDonald’s adds its voice to the growing chorus accusing Big Meat of price manipulation.

The lawsuit claims that this conspiracy began as early as 2015 and has been ongoing since then, alleging that these beef packing companies violated antitrust laws on the federal level known as The Sherman Act.
