Empower Brands Issues Massive Voluntary Recall for PowerXL Dual-Basket Air Fryers Due to Burn Hazard

In a major announcement, Empower Brands has initiated a voluntary recall of two models of its popular PowerXL dual-basket air fryers, following concerns raised by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall comes after the company acknowledged that the kitchen gadget poses a potential burn hazard to consumers.

According to the CPSC, the recall affects the PowerXL Dual-Basket Air Fryer models DUAF-10 and DUAF-005. The company decided to take this action after receiving a total of 41 reports of the product breaking during use, with three of these incidents resulting in burns. The primary issue identified in the recall is the plastic connector used to combine the two food baskets, which can break and potentially cause burns.

The larger DUAF-10 model, with a 10-quart capacity, measures approximately 17 inches long by 16 inches wide by 12 1/2 inches tall and weighs about 14 1/2 pounds. The smaller DUAF-005 model, with a 9-quart capacity, is about 14 inches long by 13 inches wide by 15 inches tall and weighs approximately 14 pounds. Both models feature a silver label on the front bearing the “PowerXL” brand.

These air fryers, available in black or cinnamon colors, were sold between August 2021 and October 2023, retailing for prices ranging from $60 to $190, depending on the model. The products were widely distributed and could be found in popular retail stores such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, and Amazon.com.

Consumers are urged to check their air fryers for the model numbers located on the bottom of each unit or the unit’s power cord. If affected, they should immediately stop using the product and contact Empower Brands to arrange for a full refund. The company can be reached at 866-704-9370, or consumers can visit prodprotect.com/recall/duaf for more information.
