Moscow Accuses US of Undermining Russia with Arms Supply to Ukraine
The Russian Embassy in Washington has accused US policymakers of pursuing an agenda to undermine Russia by continuously supplying Ukraine with weapons. In response to the Pentagon’s recent decision to provide Ukraine with an additional $500 million security assistance package, including armored vehicles, anti-tank systems, and ammunition, Moscow’s embassy criticized the move as an attempt to engage in a futile battle against the Russian Federation through Ukrainian proxies.
The embassy stated on Tuesday that the United States’ relentless arms supply to Kiev amounted to “making futile attempts to defeat the Russian Federation ‘on the battlefield’ with the hands of Kiev puppets.” It further asserted that the Russian military, through its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, was consistently debunking the supposed superiority of American and NATO weapons, citing the wreckage of destroyed machinery in the Donbass region as evidence.
Since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, the US has emerged as a prominent Western supporter of Ukraine, having committed over $40 billion in security assistance to Kiev. However, Russia has repeatedly voiced its concerns over Western countries providing weapons to Ukraine, arguing that such actions only prolong the conflict while directly involving them in the hostilities.
Meanwhile, reports from Russia claim the destruction of numerous Ukrainian tanks and heavy equipment during the ongoing counteroffensive by Russian forces, including German-supplied Leopard tanks and US-made Bradley armored vehicles. Videos circulated on social media have shown the aftermath of Western-supplied armor being rendered inoperable.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated that Ukraine had lost around 30% of its Western-supplied equipment. On Tuesday, he announced that since the commencement of the counteroffensive on June 4, Ukraine had reportedly lost 259 tanks and 780 armored vehicles.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate tensions between Russia and the United States, with both sides engaging in accusations and counter-accusations. As the situation unfolds, the role of the United States in providing military support to Ukraine remains a subject of intense debate and scrutiny, as policymakers weigh geopolitical considerations against potential consequences.
